Who we are
We’re just a couple of people sharing about the joys of living in Small Town USA. Our website address is: https://lifeinpixley.us/wp.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. But you shouldn’t upload images to the website anyway, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
If you’re concerned about privacy, use incognito or InPrivate browsing. Make Duck Duck Go your search engine. Dump pretty much all social media. If you’re not the customer, you’re the product. And get rid of all IoT devices, Siri, Alexa, and all other adorable spyware. You don’t need to start your coffee with an app. Seriously, people! Wake up before you have no privacy at all!
Analytics
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Admin note — this is a boilerplate privacy notice, so some of it is above me. If you leave a comment, there may be a way to export a file. It might have to be done manually. You should have the ability to delete your comments or copy them yourself. I will happily remove comments you wish to remove. This is not the kind of site where sensitive personal information is shared — other than by us in our goal to share the joys and troubles of small town life. My recommendation is to avoid sharing personal information anywhere it isn’t necessary or useful to you.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection and security software. We manually moderate comments.
Our contact information

Additional information
How we protect your data
We use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication. I receive notifications if the activity on the site is unusual. We use third-party security plug-ins to protect your information and ours.
What third parties we receive data from
None, unless the security software receives reports from elsewhere. We don’t sell or share your data with anyone.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
We have firewall software to help protect us from spammers and those with malicious intent.
Industry regulatory disclosure requirements
I’m not aware of any.
Our thoughts on privacy and free speech
We cherish all our rights that have been confirmed in the U.S. Constitution in the Bill of Rights. We encourage free expression. On this site, we will moderate comments for foul or abusive language, inappropriate content, or blatant advertising. This is not a place to sell your shoes, sunglasses, or inexpensive meds — although free enterprise is awesome, and we encourage you in your legitimate commercial endeavors. This blog was created for a specific purpose, and comments that are polite and on-point are welcomed and encouraged. Think of it like stopping by for a visit with your grandparents … assuming your grandparents are nice and a little weird.
To protect yourself, don’t share any personal information on the internet that you don’t want to be public. If you are anxious to say something to us personally that might involve something too sensitive for the public forum, feel free to send us an email at the admin email address. Just remember, we aren’t looking to buy anything, we’re not interested in a political debate, we are joyfully Christian, we don’t need an auto warranty, we don’t believe in get-rich-quick, we’re not looking for health supplements, and we’re happily married. We don’t guarantee we will respond to anything off-topic, and we guarantee we won’t to anything off-color.
As for information, unless you are a friend of ours already, we won’t use your email address or other information for anything but the purposes above. If you are a friend of ours, we might update our address books. You won’t receive unsolicited materials of any kind from us. We hope you can say the same.
